Job Title: Staff Grade Clinical Engineering Technician

Reports to: Principal Clinical Engineer

Responsible to: Chief Clinical Engineer, Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering team

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational

 Apply their ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, IT problems/issues associated with medical devices using their knowledge, qualifications, training and/or experience in order to ensure maximum uptime of medical device equipment.

 Provide maintenance services for electro medical equipment in respect of its functional, electronic, optical, electrical and mechanical aspects to a standard of safety, accuracy and reliability consistent with its function and with professional standards.

 Assist with the co-ordination and implementation of the preventative schedule maintenance and safety programmes.

 Advise on the selection, specification, acceptance testing, commissioning and safety of new equipment and services.

 Participate in the implementation and on-going use of the SVHG Maintenance Management and Asset Register System (ECRI-AIMS) ensuring all equipment is maintained to relevant standards and appropriate records are available at all times.

 Advise where required, on new technical installations/projects.

 Support the nursing, medical and technical staff in the implementation of technology involved in patient care.

 Participate as required in education and training

 Provide user/staff training as necessary as part of CPD.

 Partake in appropriate and relevant CPD.

 Actively participate in SVHG accreditation programmes, JCI and HIQA.

 Partake in national professional societies e.g. BEAI, Engineers Ireland

 

Quality and Patient Safety

 

The post holder will:

 Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example; Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Job Description – Clinical Engineering Technician Page 3 of 8 Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.

 Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements and regulations including maintaining the workshop areas, tools and test equipment.

 Perform as required routine QA checking and participate in risk management occurrence form management reviews (RMOF). 

 Partake in hazard alert investigation, management and reporting.

 Participate in quality improvement initiatives as required.

 Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and participate as required in education and training and SVHG mandatory training.

 Be professionally responsible for all aspects of the post.
