We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Manager to join the manufacturing team based at our Enable Ireland, SeatTech, Sandymount Avenue, Dublin 4, D04 T959.

SeatTech is a leading national provider of special seating systems for people who use wheelchairs as their primary means of mobility. Our mission at SeatTech is to work together with the people who access our services, to provide the best possible seating, wheelchair and positioning aids, designed to meet their individual needs. We aim to achieve this by working together as a specialist multidisciplinary team of caring individuals, who understand that our success is always determined by the quality of the service we provide to each person.

SeatTech provides a range of services, including clinical assessment & advice, mobility equipment recommendation & prescription, and in-house manufacture of custom and custom contoured wheelchair seating systems

We are seeking to recruit people with a positive attitude and a capacity to show initiative. Applicants for this role will need to demonstrate a good mix of skills and attributes that include the desire to oversee an experienced technical team and co-ordinate the manufacturing workflow to optimise service efficiencies. Experience of regulatory compliance is essential and experience of managing a team in a ‘lean’ production environment would be a bonus.

The Role:

The purpose of this role is to manage production processes and line-manage the production team, reporting to the SeatTech Manager.

Managing production processes requires implementation of workflow planning systems, stock management systems, and quality management systems, specifically ISO 13485 to ensure compliance with the provisions of the European Medical Devices Regulations.

SeatTech has made significant strides in recent years to transition from very traditional manufacturing methods to advanced scanning and digital production methods (CNC milling/3D printing). The Production Manager will continue to lead these advancements.

The Production Manager will lead the team in ensuring that production jobs are completed within agreed timescales. The Production Manager must have the ability to act decisively to address challenges as they arise and experience of team supervision in a workshop/work-cell manufacturing environment will highly desirable.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate exceptional planning & organisational skills, with the ability to take on responsibility and to support decisions taken, putting the people who use our services at the centre of what we do.

If the successful applicant has experience in the provision of a clinical seating assessment & prescription service then there will be the opportunity to apply those skills.

Overview of Duties & Responsibilities
• Line management of the SeatTech technical team
• Production management to ensure a continuous adequate supply of raw materials (stock management) and the efficient planning of workloads to optimise productivity and efficiencies across the team
• Product management including regulatory compliance (Medical Devices Regulations)
• Implementation of a quality management system (ISO 13485)
• Progression towards use of digital technologies (3D scanning, digital post-processing, and computer aided manufacture, e.g. CNC milling, 3D printing).
• Act as health & safety competent person, with a small element of associated general building maintenance.
• Delivery of a clinical assessment & prescription service – for suitably qualified candidates.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:

• An honours degree (NFQ Level 8) in mechanical, manufacturing, or biomedical engineering, management, or equivalent - Extensive experience of efficiently managing a technical team in a workshop environment may be taken into consideration by way of equivalence.
• Experience of working in a regulated environment and of carrying responsibility for regulatory compliance
• Experience of line management structure and willingness to adhere to same
• Understanding of and willingness to adhere to organisational policies & procedures
• Willingness to assist in the ongoing professional formation of other staff members 
• Creativity, and the ambition to see the improvements in service provision

Desirable Criteria:

• NFQ Level 9 qualification in Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent, and/or Management
• Experience managing technical staff in a manufacturing/production environment
• Experience in the implementation of the European Medical Devices Regulations
• Experience of using computer aided manufacturing techniques such as digital scanning, CNC milling, 3D printing etc.
• Experience of working with (programming and executing files on) CNC machining devices
• Understanding of work in the disability sector and of the role of Enable Ireland and SeatTech
• Experience in assessing individuals with a view to defining their clinical requirements
• Experience prescribing and working with standard (off-the-shelf) and customised seating & postural management equipment solutions to meet assessed needs
• Ability to conceptualise complex scenarios and articulate them in a simplified manner
• Eligibility for chartered membership of Engineers Ireland (CEng MIEI)
• Understanding of the principles of postural management & seating
• Experience of direct supervision of staff (formal & informal)
• Experience of implementing Quality Management Systems
• Understanding of the intricacies of interdisciplinary work
• Training in the area of wheelchair & seating assessment
• Health & Safety competent person training & experience
• Experience of automated stock management systems
• Demonstrable experience in research & development
