We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Engineering Technician to join the manufacturing team based at our Enable Ireland, SeatTech, Sandymount Avenue, Dublin 4, D04 T959.

SeatTech is a leading national provider of special seating systems for people who use wheelchairs as their primary means of mobility. Our mission at SeatTech is to work together with the people who access our services, to provide the best possible seating, wheelchair and positioning aids, designed to meet their individual needs. We aim to achieve this by working together as a specialist multidisciplinary team of caring individuals, who understand that our success is always determined by the quality of the service we provide to each person.

SeatTech provides a range of services, including clinical assessment & advice, mobility equipment recommendation & prescription, and in-house manufacture of custom and custom contoured wheelchair seating systems.

We are seeking to recruit people with a positive attitude and a capacity to show initiative. Applicants for this role will need to demonstrate a good mix of skills and attributes that include hands-on manufacturing, experience working in a regulated environment, and experience using computer-aided technologies in the design & manufacture of products of devices. Experience of working in a ‘lean’ production environment would be a bonus.

 

The Role:

The purpose of this role is to work in partnership with SeatTech colleagues to deliver a clinical assessment service and to efficiently produce wheelchair seating systems to a high quality standard, and in conformance with regulatory requirements & departmental work procedures.

The Clinical Engineering Technician produces SeatTech products in the most efficient & productive manner possible. This requires participation & co-operation with workflow planning systems including stock management and quality assurance systems.

Clinical Engineering Technicians contribute to ongoing transition from traditional manufacturing methods to advanced scanning & digital production methods (CNC milling/3D printing).

Senior Clinical Engineering Technicians work in partnership with Special Seating Clinicians in the assessing and supporting the needs of the people who attend our services, undertaking a frontline role working directly with wheelchair users and their families. They contribute their technical expertise to the processes of wheelchair & seating assessment, and the subsequent design & manufacture processes.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to assume responsibility and be accountable for their assigned duties, by putting the people who use our services at the centre of what we do, and completing production jobs within agreed timescales. Senior Clinical Engineering Technicians are accountable to the Production Co-ordinator, who is the line manager for the technical team.

Overview of Duties & Responsibilities
The Senior Clinical Engineering Technician participates in the seating assessment and design processes and ensures that devices are subsequently produced to a high standard in the most productive & efficient way possible.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Product design
• Product repairs
• Research & development
• Use of 3D scanning technologies
• Helping lead clinical interventions
• Product selection & recommendation
• Ordering products & stock management
• Post-processing of 3D scans using CAD software
• Exploration of alternative manufacturing techniques
• Autonomous product manufacture & quality management

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:

• Ability to demonstrate effectiveness of verbal & written communication skills, illustrating two-way communications in relation to challenging situations
• Significant experience of working in a clinical engineering technical role, to include hands-on direct technical intervention with end-users of devices produced
• Understanding of and willingness to adhere to organisational policies and procedures, and to repeatedly file any requisite periodic reports in good time
• It is critically important for the post-holder to be able to demonstrate their ability to independently work in a productive & efficient manner on an ongoing basis
• Ability to provide examples demonstrating the capacity to deliver high-quality results where attention to detail is a key component of the work
• Experience of hands-on completion to a high standard of manual technical work, seeing products through from design phase to completion
• Demonstrable technical competence – a hands-on practical assessment will form part of the selection process
• Manufacturing workshop experience to include experience using machine tools and handheld power tools
• Flexibility, and a demonstrable ability to work efficiently - both on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Understanding of work in the disability sector and of the role of Enable Ireland & SeatTech
• Competence in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel
• Understanding of, and commitment to adhere to, line management structure
• Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development
• Experience of adherence to daily or weekly reporting obligations
• NFQ Level 7 qualification in a relevant field of engineering
• Training & experience in clinical  / biomedical applications
• Experience of using CAD/CAM techniques
• Proven track record in problem-solving
• Manufacturing workshop experience
• Workshop & machine tools training
• Full, clean driving licence

Desirable Criteria:

• Demonstrable experience of contributing to service improvement initiatives in previous roles – a portfolio demonstrating same would be welcome
• Experience undertaking planned preventative maintenance on machine tools & handheld power tools
• Experience of assisting in the ongoing professional formation of other staff members
• Eligibility to be registered as ‘Engineering Technician’ with Engineers Ireland
• Biomedical Engineering or equivalent qualification to NFQ Level 8
• Experience in the design or development of CAD/CAM techniques
• Demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional formation
• Track record of delivering on research & design objectives
• Understanding of the intricacies of interdisciplinary work
• Capacity to negotiate solutions within a team setting
• Stock management experience
